Access to HE Diplomas

An Access to HE Diploma is a nationally recognised entry qualification for degrees and professional training courses.

Access courses are designed for learners who wish to study at Higher Education level but lack the formal qualifications. Even if you haven't written anything since you left school, it doesn't matter; no previous qualifications are required.

The courses aim to prepare mature students for entry into Higher Education by providing the underpinning knowledge and skills needed to progress on to a degree or diploma course at a university or college.

The courses last for one academic year if you study full-time. There may also be the option of studying part-time.

The following Access courses are available at York College

The universities and colleges in York accept applicants who have successfully completed the Access to HE diploma onto the majority of their Degree programmes.

In fact, many departments actively encourage applications from Access students as they value their maturity and willingness to contribute to discussion.

If you are unsure or think you need to slowly work your way into education the Upskill to Access Course at York College is a great well to begin developing your study skills. There is also an Upskill to Access in Health and Social Care Course specifically for those wanting to educate themselves in this area.
