Advice on choosing the right course for you Once you've gathered as much course information as possible, you may benefit from some professional advice. This may be especially useful if you want to discuss some initial thoughts about the type of course you would be suited to. There are a range of services that offer advice and guidance relating to Higher Education. Some of these are listed below.
Higher York The Higher York Information Officer provides information, advice and guidance relating to Higher Education provision in York and North Yorkshire. Your query could relate to any aspect of Higher Education, from funding, to part time provision, to completing your UCAS form. Higher York hold drop-in sessions which are held in the shop at Future Prospects from 1pm - 4pm every Thursday and 4pm - 7pm every first and third Tuesday of the month. Connexions If you are 19 or under you should have a Connexions Personal Adviser (PA). Your PA will be able to offer you advice about the different Higher Education options available to you. Click here to view the Connexions Direct website.
School/College If you are still at school or college, or recently attended, it may be worth asking your tutors for advice. Your subject tutors will know your strengths and weaknesses and which learning styles you respond best to. They may also be able to suggest courses they feel would build on the knowledge and skills you've already acquired in a particular subject.
Future Prospects Future Prospects is York's free learning and work advice service and offers information, advice and guidance on all aspects of Higher Education. From 1-3pm every Thursday afternoon a Higher Education drop-in is held in the shop. 'Is Higher Education for me?' course This course is aimed at anyone thinking about studying a degree programme and will provide you with all the relevant information you need to make an informed decision about HE.
