York students get money-smarter

_0004800v4Higher York partners (York St John University, the University of York, Askham Bryan College and York College) marked the start of National Student Money Week at a launch event in Bedern Hall today.

York’s universities and colleges are committed to ensuring their students are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage their finances effectively whilst studying and living in the city. This event was an opportunity for guests to hear about some of the initiatives aimed at making students 'money-smart’, as well as to meet other key contacts in the city involved in providing student financial support.

Representatives from York’s universities and colleges, local banks and other financial organisations came along.

Claire Newhouse, Higher York Manager said: "It's great that the universities and colleges are working together to help educate students about how to budget and look after their money".

Speakers included representatives from BlackBullion and the National Association of Student Money Advisers, with a welcome given by the Lord Mayor of York, Cllr. Sonja Crisp.
