Skipton’s Year 9 pupils visit Higher Education institutions across York
The Higher York Network for Collaborative Outreach (HYNCO) hosted Year 9 students from Skipton Academy across several of its partner universities and colleges on Thursday 25 February. The visit supported the continuing activities with HYNCO to better inform the students of the higher education possibilities that could be open to them in the future.
Students visited campuses across York to see the broad range of opportunities higher education has to offer. Some students had a chance to learn more about academic lectures and seminars, while others visited an agricultural science lab and a variety of other land-based teaching facilities. Higher York partners in the network worked together to ensure students experienced a taste of the diverse range of courses available at higher education level.
‘It’s been a very good day learning all about higher education,’ Scarlet, a Year 9 pupil, said; ‘It has given me more ideas for the future.’
The Skipton students took part in a range of activities including group research looking into famous graduates, talking to current students about their experiences and touring campuses.
Sara Elson, Assistant Principal at Skipton Academy said, ‘The visit has been brilliant at widening the horizons of our students and showing them what life outside Skipton could be like.’
Higher York and its partners will continue to work with schools in York, North Yorkshire and parts of East Riding. If your school is interested in activities provided by HYNCO, please visit www.higheryork.org/schools or telephone 01904 876350.
