WIN-WIN FOR YORK COLLEGE EMPLOYERS AND APPRENTICES

By taking on apprentices, York College is helping employers to create a workforce for the future and offer students real career opportunities.

Ashlea Elcoate progressed from the National Diploma in Electronic Engineering to being an apprentice electrician at Schneider Electric. Says

Ashlea: “I always wanted to be an electrician. I enjoyed the hands on work and now my employer is encouraging me to take on a more technical role in the company.”

York College works with Ashlea’s employer to identify her training needs and college assessors visit her in the workplace to support and guide her along the apprenticeship route. For Ashlea, the apprenticeship programme has led to higher level qualifications since Schneider Electric supported her return to college to study a Foundation Degree in Electronic Engineering.
