Navigate success to higher education
The Higher York Network for Collaborative Outreach launched its Navigate programme on Thursday 28 January at The Skipton Academy, as part of its work to increase pupils’ awareness of higher education options and to raise their aspirations.
The Skipton Academy’s Navigate programme will show students how they can be better informed now to consider the option of higher education in the future.
Pupils took part in several activities and workshops covering key areas of higher education, such as hints and tips on choosing a course and how to manage a student budget. Student ambassadors and members of the outreach teams from the network’s colleges and universities delivered these workshops, giving students useful insights of their own experiences as current students. One activity had students researching famous graduates, where they studied, what subjects they chose and how this took them to the career they have today.
Colin Rainey, Higher York NCO Project Manager, said: ‘It’s great to see so many students eager to hear from our Student Ambassadors about life as a student. It has certainly inspired them to think about the possibilities for the future.’
Further activities are planned as part of the Higher York NCO work with The Skipton Academy including a visit to the Higher Education providers within the network.
Higher York and its partners will continue to work with schools in York, North Yorkshire and parts of East Riding. For schools interested in activities provided by Higher York NCO, visit www.higheryork.org/schools or telephone 01904 876350
