Wildlife Paintings Secure Katie's National Graphic Design Calendar Prize

Congratulations to Higher Education Graphic Design student Katie Reilley on winning the Highly Commended prize in the 2016 National Calendar Design Awards competition.

Katie_Reilley_Calendar_Award_winner_1WEBKatie’s innovative Yorkshire Wildlife Trust calendar design, featuring her own animal paintings on tree trunk plinths, encapsulated her talent for illustration.

Says Katie: “I love fine art and enjoy painting animals so I scanned my paintings and edited them to fit the calendar format. I’m so pleased my tutor encouraged me to enter the competition and it was great to be presented with a prize at the Stationers Hall in London. I can now add the prize to my portfolio as I start looking for employment.”

Katie (aged 23), formerly of All Saints RC School, came to York College to explore her passion for fine art and illustration on the Art Foundation Diploma. Hoping to secure employment in the art world, she then progressed to the BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree course, even though she did not think of herself as being particularly ‘graphicy’. Katie says: “My tutors reassured me that my illustration skills could be applied to the graphics course and they were right – it’s starting to pay off.”
