Julian Smith MP officially opens Craven College’s new building
A new £6.2 million Ribblehead Building was opened at Craven College Aireville campus by Skipton MP Julian Smith who said it was an indication of the "great track record" in practical teaching that the College had established.
The new building will give a huge boost to both full and part-time students and Apprentices, helping develop talent across a range of craft skills and providing progression from Level 1 to Level 3 in Brickwork, Painting & Decorating, Plastering and both Bench and Site Woodwork & Joinery with the opportunity to study Construction & the Built Environment at Higher National Level.
The opening ceremony included speeches from Principal Robert Bellfield and MP Julian Smith, followed by a tour of the new Ribblehead building brickwork, woodwork and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating and engineering workshops and teaching zones and the A Level, Learning Resource, Enterprise and Higher Education centres in Whernside.
Since its foundation in 1894 Craven College has seen many changes in accommodation but none more dramatic than the new buildings contributing to the growth of the Aireville Campus. Substantial investment by the Skills Funding Agency and Craven College has gone in to creating these well-resourced facilities where the growing number of students can study in comfort and safety.
Principal Robert Bellfield said:
“As a College with a long standing commitment to serving its community it’s always pleasing when a project like our new Ribblehead Building for Construction and Engineering is not only successful but brings additional benefits to others in the area. Right from the start of the project we were determined to provide training facilities which would benefit local employers and provide a quality, skilled, productive workforce who can contribute to national initiatives in building new homes and businesses. This development really embraces the inclusive values which Craven College has always striven to deliver over the years.”
“On behalf of all the Governors, staff and students at Craven College I would like to express appreciation for the high standards and professional support, architectural design and construction skills which have delivered the new Ribblehead building to such a high environmental specification. It is a great asset for Craven College.”
