Raising aspirations at Thirsk School
The Higher York Network for Collaborative Outreach (HYNCO) hosted an intensive day of aspiration-raising activities at Thirsk School on Friday 6th May.
The event was part of a continuing programme of activities arranged between the school and HYNCO, to better inform pupils about the higher education possibilities that could be open to them in the future.
Student ambassadors and staff from York St John University, York College, Askham Bryan College, the University of York and Craven College worked together to develop activities which gave pupils an insight into the range of higher education providers and courses available. Pupils were able to hear first-hand from the student ambassadors about what it’s like to be a higher education student, covering topics such as moving out of home, accommodation, and what student life is like generally.
The event was also an excellent opportunity for the Thirsk pupils to find out about the differences and similarities between the universities and colleges in the network, including what courses they offer and what it’s like to study there.
Higher York and its partners will continue to work with schools in York, North Yorkshire and parts of East Riding. If your school is interested in activities provided by HYNCO, please visit www.higheryork.org/schools or telephone 01904 876350.
