Good Landlord Awards 2015

Good Landlord Award logo with sponsors (2 of 2)Students in York have the opportunity to nominate their landlords for the second annual Good Landlord Awards, a student-led scheme which seeks to recognise and celebrate the best in student landlordship in the city.

Run by York’s Student Community Partnership, a long-standing project between York City Council and all four of York’s Higher Education (HE) institutions, students have until midnight on Sunday 4th October to nominate landlords who they feel go above and beyond to deliver an excellent experience for their tenants.

Set up to further community engagement between students and landlords in the city, student representatives from across the HE institutions, councillors, dignitaries and members of the Higher York Executive Board will attend the awards ceremony.

Students can nominate their landlord in one of five categories:

Nominations will be considered anonymously by a panel of student representatives from each participating Student Union alongside a team of housing experts. Shortlisted landlords will be notified by 9th October and invited to an awards ceremony on 10th November where the winners will be announced.

Sinead Hammond, Higher York intern and co-ordinator of the scheme, said:

“Living in York and renting private accommodation without parents for the very first time can be daunting for students, who in most cases have never had to consider contracts, paying bills and maintenance issues. Having a great landlord, who goes out of their way to make this step an easy and positive experience, can make all the difference.

The Good Landlord Awards aim to recognise these fantastic landlords and letting agents, celebrating all of their hard work over the year. We hope to encourage as many students as possible to nominate their landlords to show how much they appreciate everything they do for students whilst providing incentive for other landlords to match these high standards and eventually make housing a stress-free part of student lifestyle here in York.”

Students can nominate their landlords online, through the Higher York webpage where the category descriptions can be found, or directly through the survey page.
