Duncan Renewables: Internship - Amy Ratcliffe
Duncan Renewables wanted to recruit an intern to work on a project which would enable the company to expand their Marketing and PR efforts to demonstrate its reputation and experience within the renewables industry. The main focus of the intern’s project would be to develop and implement a more comprehensive customer outreach and engagement plan for the company.
Duncan Renewables is a division of Duncan Plumbing, Heating & Electrics Limited. The company was established as a specialist provider of green energy solutions for both the domestic and commercial sectors and rapidly became one of the leading players in the emerging solar PV and biomass markets. So far 2013 has seen great take-up of biomass installations on commercial properties ranging from chicken farms, stately homes and Youth Hostels. They have also recently won the Biomass Installer of the Year award.
Amy Ratcliffe, a final year German and Linguistics student at the University of York, was selected for the internship and hoped to use her experience to gain a deeper awareness of marketing strategies. Karen Duncan spoke highly of Amy’s work and said, “We are confident that Amy’s social media strategy will drive increased traffic to our website, improve our Google rankings, increase our credibility with industry leaders, enable us to be a leading educator in the industry and increase recognition of our brand … Amy became a valuable asset to our business and we are very much looking forward to continuing our relationship during the coming months.
Amy said, “I quickly realised that by working in the heart of this small business, the upcoming 8 weeks were guaranteed to be incredibly varied … One of my main achievements was the successful launch of the company’s social media presence on numerous platforms, which resulted in Duncan Renewables gaining close to 100 followers on Twitter within the space of a month …. I am proud to have been offered a part-time continuing role at Duncan Renewables as a Marketing Assistant … I am looking forward to continuing to develop skills which I’ve been developing during my internship.”
