Construction Business Breakfast Is A Winner
Bacon sandwiches and an exclusive tour of York College’s brand new Construction & Skills Centre had employers from the construction industry talking about their training needs at a special Business Breakfast hosted by the College’s Business Development Unit.
The Business Breakfast, held in the College’s Ashfield Restaurant, was the perfect opportunity for employers and training partners in the local construction industry to get together to discuss their training needs and find out about training and development opportunities, with a real focus on apprenticeships. Following a hearty breakfast they enjoyed a guided tour of the College’s new purpose built Construction & Skills Centre where they saw trainees being taught a range of construction skills.
Martin Kennedy, Production & Logistics Trainer at Portakabin and also the City & Guilds Apprenticeship Champion of Year said: “We have an excellent working relationship with the tutors at York College and our apprentices do very well. I am very impressed with the new Construction Centre, it’s a fantastic new resource that will benefit future students wanting to work in the industry.”
Jon Charters-Reid, of Charters-Reid Surveyors, is a former joinery student at the College. He said: “This was a great event and it’s so good to be back at the College were I started my training – it is very humbling. I was encouraged massively by the construction tutors here and I owe them a great deal. I’m pleased I am now in a position to give something back to the students who are currently in training. The Construction Centre is an excellent facility and it’s nice to see the students are looking after it. They are very fortunate to have such a great resource.”
