Nicola Forshaw, founder of Access Dance, took part in York St John University's mentoring programme run through CidaCo. Access Dance provides high quality dance experiences to all areas of the community. Nicola is passionate about enhancing people’s education and quality of life through dance.
Recent projects for Access Dance include workshops in Primary and Secondary schools, York St John University and collaborations with Ascendance Rep. Long-term projects have culminated in public performances and day projects offer children the opportunity to perform to classmates and parents. The company recently received the UnLimited Catalyst Award for Social Entrepreneurship for a pioneering project with mental health service users in York.
Nicola was impressed by the specificity of the Create Innovate Achieve programme and how it related so closely to her business goals. She emphasizes the networking potential that was exploited in her course and has gained stronger contacts with dance professionals in the greater Yorkshire region as a result. Nicola found that the programme gave clarity to her future vision of the company, while prompting her to create and develop a realistic business model.
“The CidaCo course was well delivered in an interesting and timely manner and targeted subjects particularly relevant to my needs, such as managing business plans, networking and HMRC. The CidaCo course helped with all aspects of business management, networking and building confidence in my ideas.” – Nicola Forshaw, Access Dance
